NEWS CENTRE - The expected historic disarmament ceremony will take place today. It is learnt that the Peace and Democratic Society Group will destroy their weapons.

 

Upon the call of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, the historic ceremony where PKK guerrillas will lay down their arms will be held today in Silêmanî, South Kurdistan Region. According to the information reported by Medya Haber, it was noted that the guerrillas of the Peace and Democratic Society Group  will destroy their weapons at the ceremony.

 

Delegations from Turkey and different cities of Kurdistan travelled to Silêmanî with 30 vehicles provided by the Southern Kurdistan Region administration after reaching Hewlêr (Erbil). While the delegations were taken to the area where the ceremony will be held in Silêmanî, it was stated that no technical equipment would be allowed into the area.

 

While many journalists from the international arena travelled to Silêmanî to watch the ceremony on site, the ceremony is expected to be an important step in the peace process.
