NEWS CENTRE - Footage of the moments of preparation before the peace ceremony was released; group members described this moment as "a new beginning, a new birth."
Upon the call of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, a weapons disposal ceremony was organised yesterday in Şikefta Casenê in rural Sulaymaniyah. Members of the Peace and Democratic Society Group, led by KCK Executive Council Co-Chair Besê Hozat, destroyed their weapons upon Öcalan's call.
Fırat News Agency (ANF) published footage of the preparations of the group members before the historic ceremony. It was stated in the news report that the group, consisting of 15 women and 15 men, first watched Abdullah Öcalan's video message. It was noted that the group chanted "Bijî Serok Apo", "Bi can, bi xwîn em bi te re ne Ey Serok!", "Bê Serok jiyan nabe", "Jin, jiyan, azadî" and "Bijî Partiya Karkeren Kurdistan."
'Our movement continues on its way'
In the footage, Besê Hozat addresses the group members and states the following "Today we have come together here for a very important and historical work. As you all know, the process started in 2024. For more than ten years, our people and movement have been facing a total annihilation and genocide attack by the Turkish state. However, despite these attacks, the Turkish state could not achieve its goals. All the plans made came to naught, they could not get the results they wanted. The guerrilla put up a great resistance in this process. On this occasion, we congratulate all the friends who carried out the resistance and commemorate our comrades who reached martyrdom with respect and gratitude. Thanks to their sacrifices, the enemy's plans were frustrated. They had a serious blockage especially in Metîna and Zap. However, their goal was to reach Qandil within three years. However, this plan did not work. This resistance grew not only in the mountains but also in the hearts of the people. Our people were always on their feet in the four parts of Kurdistan and offered strong support to the struggle. The resistance of the guerrilla gave great courage and hope to our people. Thanks to this common will, our movement is still standing today and continues its way stronger."
Besê Hozat reminded Abdullah Öcalan's words ‘Communes should be established everywhere’ and said, "This expresses self-management and the will to govern oneself. This is the line of autonomy. Our movement wants to spread this line not only in Kurdistan but also in Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran. In this way, it aims both to liberate Kurdistan and to ensure the democratisation of the peoples of the region."
'A new birth'
Messages of the group members were also reflected in the footage. Pointing out that the weapon-burning ceremony is ‘a new beginning, a new birth’, the group members said, "We are going to rekindle the fire lit by Mazlum, Zekiye and Rahşan. We are going to fulfil the instructions given by Leader Apo."
